New State Lottery Ad, Brand New Grizzly Bear Song

WALottery.jpg We’ve got mixed feelings about the new ad from Washington’s Lottery that features a brand new song from Grizzly Bear. While we enjoy the tune and fanciful visuals that are thematically almost reminiscent of this recent, strangely psychedelic cat food commercial, we’ve got some questions about the source of the material.

We won’t get into the debate of whether bands, “indie” or otherwise, lose credible for this type of commercial arrangement. Didn’t anything conclusive come from The Flaming Lips on Beverly Hill 90210 debate?

We were hoping that like the last great WA Lottery commercial featuring The Cave Singers' "The Seeds of Night," more of these state-funded ads would showcase the treasure that is our local state talent.

How about it WA Lottery--by keeping it local, “Whose world could you change?”

EW.com’s MusicMix offers the exclusive premiere of the video on the web. The ad will hit local airwaves tonight.

The aforementioned ad featuring some of our local favorites below.

  • Agreed. I give the state a lot of credit as they've really done some great commercials. Be sure to check the flying birds one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Og5saE-D5QE

Good song and commercial. The state lottery commercials I've seen elsewhere are usually lots of yelling.
