Can't Miss It: Thursday

WE'RE NUMBER 1: The last time we recommended a Sounders’ game as a Can’t Miss It event, we may have been a liiiiittle bit over-confident about how the match was going to play out. Our home team took on Portland’s future MLS squad, the Timbers, in a preseason game (preseason) and all-but gave up the ghost on the Qwest pitch. But the regular season in upon us, and the Sounders get a fresh start against Philadelphia Union, another MLS newcomer. We’ll temper our confidence this time around, but really, everyone knows we’re gonna wipe the floor with Philly. There we go again.

6:30 p.m. // Qwest Field // Currently $36-$68
2 GENTS: A gentleman is supposed to open doors for a lady, put his coats in the street, pull cats from trees and generally be of good breeding. Unless he’s from Verona, apparently. Proteus, one of Verona’s gentlefellas, leaves his lady, Julia, and dumps her in ignoble fashion in order to pine after Sylvia. The cad. He must battle his friend Valentine for her affection, though, and of course cross dressing and betrayal ensue. Julia is not the type be left behind and cry for her cat to be plucked from the tree. She will win back Proteus. Spoiler Alert: It all works out in the end. It’s Shakespearean gold. Tonight’s showing features a 6:00 p.m. jumpstart and a post-performance Q and A.

7:30 p.m. // Center House Theatre at Seattle Center // $22-$30

3 BY DOVE: This collection of modern ballet dances starts its last weekend at Pacific Northwest Ballet. Choreographer Ulysses Dove was a master of modern dance, blending minimalistic music and modern movements with certain ballet accents. Red Angels, Vespers, and Serious Pleasures join with a fourth dance, Suspension of Disbelief, choreographed by the Dove-influenced and Twyla Tharp understudy Victor Quijada. PNB owns traditional ballet, but the company proves its versatility with the beautifully contemporary 3 by Dove.

7:30 p.m. // Marion Oliver McCaw Hall // $25-$160
