The Champions of Sound Off!

Sound Off Flyer.JPG.jpeg And the winner of the 2010 Sound Off! Battle of the Underage Bands is the great……..Great Waves!

By beating some seriously tough competition (read: Hooves and Beak, Candysound, and SEACATS), the Sammamish six-piece has scored an amazing first place prize package: a performance at this year’s Bumbershoot Festival, a live on-air performance on 107.7 The End, some studio time, lots of great gear, and more. The group edged out indie harpist Hooves and Beak, but second place is nearly as sweet: a performance at this year’s Northwest Folklife Festival, studio time and equipment.

Candysound and SEACATS came in third and fourth place respectively. Of course neither group walks away empty-handed. Third place prize is a performance at Seattle's new Hard Rock Café, two days recording time at The Vera Project and equipment. Fourth place is two days recording time at the Redmond Old Firehouse studio and equipment.

Congratulations to Great Waves and to all the participants in this year’s competition. EMP produced another terrific Battle of the Underage Bands, and we can’t wait til next year when they do it again. But for now, we can sit back and bask in the brightness of local music's future.
