Solo Performance Festival #4: Tamara Ober’s Pipa

The following is part of Seattlest’s continuing coverage on the 4th annual Solo Performance Festival: SPF #4 Can You Get My Back? Full event calendar here.

SPF.gif Pipa, a dance-theater work by Tamara Ober, is an entrancing tale of a wayward young girl named Pipa. The eponymous piece combines Ober’s movement and spoken narration with props, recorded text and video. Ober’s outstanding range and precision, mixed with a captivating stage presence, result in an inventive story-telling style that smoothly submerges the viewer into the character’s quirky world. Ober has toured Pipa to Montreal, Winnipeg, Budapest, and to the Edmonton and Minneapolis Fringe Festivals, where she was awarded a Minneapolis Sage Award for Outstanding Performer. Pipa’s showing has ended for this year’s SPF run, but we absolutely recommend Ober as a performer to watch out for in the future.

March 3 - April 3 //Theater Off Jackson, 409 7th Ave S. // Tickets $15 advance, $18 at door, All-festival pass $99
