Chef Maria Hines of Tilth Restaurant will be on "The Martha Stewart Show" today at 3:00 on KONG TV. She is one of three chefs featured on the Female Chefs Show and will be preparing butter-poached prawns with couscous. Chef Hines, who won the James Beard Award for Best Chef Northwest last year, was one of only two women who took home awards out of the nineteen total winners. Clearly female chefs haven't been given their due and that fact has drawn a lot more attention recently. The theme of last year's James Beard Awards gala was "Women in Food." Unfortunately only sixteen of the total ninety-six nominees were women. The past two Beard Awards winners for the Northwest have been women and this year there are five, including Rachel Yang from Joule, still in the running.
