Legalize It? Not So Fast, Hippie... The PI is reporting that the Washington State legislature has decided the state doesn't really need a projected $300 million in new tax revenues. The legislature has shot down a bill that would have legalized and regulated marijuana for people over 21 in Washington State. In the throes their anti-reefer madness, they also sent up in smoke another bill that would have taken the less drastic step of decriminalizing possession of small amounts of the drug throughout the state. Legalized marijuana advocates throughout the state were really upset for about thirty seconds, then remembered a really great YouTube clip they saw a while ago and got kinda hungry.
While marijuana legalization certainly took a hit today, the cause may yet rise from the ashes if coordinators of Sensible Washington can collect enough signatures to get the matter brought directly to voters on the November ballot. That's right, perpetually stoned people - the future of Washington is in your hands. Don't let us down.
