Local Food Systems Day
One way that Whole Foods invests in their communities is through Community Giving Days (otherwise known as "5% Days") where 5% of that day's net sales are donated to a local nonprofit or educational organization. Three Seattle-area Whole Foods Markets are contributing 5% of their net sales on Tuesday to support Seattle Chefs Collaborative and Cascade Harvest Coalition.
Chefs Collaborative works with chefs and the greater food community to celebrate local foods and foster a more sustainable food supply. The organization will use the proceeds to fund this year's Seattle Farmer-Fisher-Chef Connection (March 1) and other efforts, such as the Quillisascut Farm School Scholarships.
Cascade Harvest Coalition is dedicated to re-localizing the food system in Washington by connecting consumers more directly with producers. Cascade Harvest Coalition's share will go to support the FarmLink program - helping the next generation of farmers access land and resources to be sustainable. Spread the word to shop at the Westlake, Interbay or Roosevelt stores on Tuesday, to support these two great organizations!
