Let's All Go to the Movies

There’s a whole lot of movie going on this weekend--enough that it’s in everyone’s interest just to get down to business of covering your weekend in movies in the simplest manner available to us.

Bulleted List, We Choose You!

So much more after the jump!

  • In other cult film news, Monty Python and The Holy Grail will be at Central Cinema tomorrow and Sunday night, and only the most Jonestownian devotees need apply for these very special, supremely dorky, "Quote-Along" performances. That’s right, folks--for once, you can jabber along with every eminently quotable line of this flick, and no one in earshot will beg you to please for the love of God shut up. You’re among friends.
  • For those of you not seeking the comforting bosom of an old standby, the excellent Strongman arrives at Northwest Film Forum this weekend. A full review of this stirring documentary about a man who is very good at bending metal with his bare hands, and not so good at pretty much everything else in his life, will be forthcoming. For now, suffice to say that it’s a deeply moving portrait of a surprisingly nuanced individual, and a fine example of documentary done right. Bonus Points: Director Zachary Levy will be in attendance for the screenings tonight and tomorrow.
  • And no, foreign film fan, we didn’t forget about you. SIFF is showing Jacques Tati’s hilarious and rarely screened Monsieur Hulot films this weekend. If the misadventures of an easily befuddled Frenchman don’t sound like your cup of tea, don’t despair--the series sits alongside the works of Peter Sellers and Buster Keaton as among cinema’s finest examples of low concept, high execution comedic routines. Also at SIFF, Sunday night also sees local literary celeb Sherman Alexie in attendance for a showing of Smoke Signals as part of SIFF's Dinner and A Movie series.
