Pullin' Shots: Cloud City Coffee in Maple Leaf
In Pullin' Shots, Seattlest visits some of the region's famed coffeehouses. Nothing is more Seattle than our unique coffee culture, and it is our goal to uncover what makes our famed "third places" so special. Today, Pullin' Shots stops in at Cloud City Coffee in quaint Maple Leaf.
Where do they get their beans? Cloud City exclusively uses True North coffee roasted in Ballard: the Espresso blend for all espresso drinks and the Cloud City Blend for drip.
What espresso machine do they use? La Marzocco Linea.
What kinds of milk do they carry? Whole and skim milk, rice, and soy.
What food do they offer? Aside from doughnuts from Mighty O, all pastries (including bagels!) are made on-site daily. They offer a rotating assortment of soups and a full menu of panini sandwiches and wraps. Not to be missed are the wholesome breakfast burritos to get your day going.
Music? Mellow downbeat--Thievery Corporation on this visit.
Snob Factor? Very Low. We loved the relaxed counter setup, the handwritten menu boards, and the complete lack of pretension.
Ambiance/Clientele: This is your quintessential neighborhood coffee shop. Cloud City is laid back (honor system drip coffee bar!) and caters perfectly to its local clientele with their dogs parked outside. There are always plenty of kids around (as there is a designated kids' area) with accompanying soccer moms, in addition to a laptop brigade at the window counter jockeying for outlet space. They even have a large communal bookcase with board games just inviting you to linger for a while. This shop is both quaint and airy at the same time, especially on nice days with their two roll-up garage doors.
