Can't Miss It: Thursday

IT’S JUST WHAT WE ALWAYS WANTED: The bad news is Pioneer Square just lost a chunk of its soul the size of The Complete Miss Marple. The good news is Elliott Bay Bookstore is coming to Capitol Hill! It’s a big day for the 36-year-old bookstore, which announced its upcoming move yesterday. The news makes tonight’s Season’s Readings event one not to miss. Publishers will gather to share their book recommendations in a night sure to be filled with holiday joy and maybe a few tearful goodbyes.

LET’S (JUDGE) DANCE: Determine your own stars and help decide which Northwest dancer deserves a chance at winning $10,000 at The A.W.A.R.D. Show!, a spreading, New York-based dance competition. For three nights, 12 dance artists will present 15-minute acts. Each night the audience can discuss the art with the artists and then select finalists to perform in the Sunday finale. In the final, a panel of judges, along with the voting audience, will choose the Northwest’s winner. Tonight’s choreographers are Hannah Lagerway, Ricki Mason, Olivier Wevers, and Deborah Wolf.

CHOREOGRAPHING WORDS: What do you get when you mix Billy Joel with Ballet? Well, even after seeing Movin’ Out,l we’re still not sure. But dance artist Twyla Tharp knows a thing or two about combining popular culture with fine dance, so we’ll let the multiple award winner, holder of 19 honorary doctorates, Singin’ In The Rain choreographer, and author of The Collaborative Habit do the explaining.
