Laptop Steering Wheel Desk Baffles, Delights Amazon Users

2009_12_7_LSWD.jpg Oh, what to get that hard-to-buy for person on your list this year? May we suggest the Laptop Steering Wheel Desk by Mobile Office--a hit with Amazon users*--although common complaints address a lack of a cup holder, no straps to keep sliding laptops secure, and a missing lip to catch rolling vegetables and dripping baby pee. Sometimes the cons outweigh the pros of this wonderful product:

  • "...must have come from people who drive I-94 across North Dakota. Because this thing has a serious design flaw if your route includes any curves. I know: I catapulted my steaming, extra-large, skinny, half-caf macchiato all over my passenger while making sharp right turn, and once the ER treated her burns and released her, she's threatening to sue."
  • "If you hit something with your baby on the LSWD, it's important to throw the baby out of the way as soon as you can. If the air bag deploys, it'll hit the baby and thrust it through the rear windshield, and we all know how much those things cost. So just a quick swipe of your arm should get the baby safely out of the way of the air bag and out the passenger window in a much more cost-effective, rear windshield-saving manner."
  • "This product does not make bacon. It does not claim to, but it should. Bacon rules. Steering wheel desk, I am disappoint.

But overall the laptop steering wheel desk yields rave reviews, and comes highly recommended.

  • "i got the tiger wood's collector's version. it only works in an escalade and has an absorbent terry cloth cover which can be used as a tourniquet. a real chick magnet!"
  • "Do you have any idea how hard it is to read Braille books while driving? Every time I'd hit something my book would slide off my lap onto the floor and I'd lose my place. Problem solved...Thanks Laptop Steering Wheel Desk."
  • "Finally I can do the Google and the Twitter as I'm driving! No more glancing down to the passenger's side or having my laptop mashed up next to the driver's window. Every car should have one. Every laptop owner should have one. THIS COULD BE THE WAY OUT OF THE ECONOMIC SLUMP!!!"

Also cropping up occasionally is the legitimately outraged reviewer who scolds the whole crew for irresponsible driving tactics and stupidity.

  • "Title says it all. Who came up with this totally asinine idea? Someone wrote a review that says they use it to TAKE NAPS ON THE ROAD. Seriously? Amazon needs to remove this item and call the police on the company that made it. This is NOT safe, NOT legal, and oh, by the way? It's STUPID."
