Give Back with the Hello Poster Show

Art, they say, holds a mirror to the world. Sometimes you can buy that mirror, if you want to. And sometimes, if you're really lucky, the money you used to buy that mirror goes towards something good. Luck has smiled upon you if you want art that gives back tonight: the Hello Poster show runs tonight at the Parnassus Cafe at the University of Washington School of Art. The show features 30 silkscreen posters, all around the theme of "hello." They'll be featuring 19x26 prints for sale for $10. Best of all, all proceeds benefit three wonderful nonprofit organizations:

  • The U-District Food Bank, which provides individuals and families who are in need with food and access to a network of community resources that helps them achieve self-sufficiency,
  • ROOTS Youth Shelter, which helps to homeless young adults by delivering critical services to homeless young adults and other low income persons, advocates for policies that foster dignity and long-term solutions, and works toward building community partnerships, and
  • Circle of Friends for Mental Health, which brings art, drama, music, creative writing and other experiences to the mentally ill.

Design geeks, take heed! Following the opening is a fantastic AIGA lecture on "Finding (and Using) Your Voice in the Design World," featuring Jeff Barlow, AIGA Seattle President and Creative Director at Jelvetica.
