Suspect in Lakewood Killings Wounded, May Be Dead

clemmons_orange.JPG Maurice Clemmons, the convicted felon sought by police in connection with yesterday morning's shooting of four police officers in a Lakewood coffee shop, is wounded and may be dead, King 5 reports. Police surrounded a Leschi home late Sunday evening in their search for Clemmons, firing tear gas and flashbang grenades around 2:00 a.m., and finally entering the home at around 7:00 a.m. this morning. The home, however, was empty. Times report "Sbhatt" twittered the standoff, as did Seattle Times photographer Cliff DesPeaux.

Clemmons, who is now listed as a suspect with a murder warrant, not just a person of interest, is still unaccounted for. The Seattle Weekly indicates that police have detained multiple people, including some whom have assisted Clemmons.

The reward for information leading to Clemmons' arrest has been upped to $125,000.

Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, who commuted Clemmons' sentence in 1990, has released a statement condemning the shooting. Clemmons has a long criminal history, with felony charges in Arkansas and Washington.

UW has issued a warning to students that Clemmons may be in that area. If you have any information about the shooting, call Crimestoppers at 253-591-5959.
