Can't Miss It: Weekend Edition Nov 13-15
SHANGRI-LA SECRETS: Renowned mountaineer Peter Athans--or as he's known in certain circles "Mr. Everest"--will share images and video from his travels. Athans, who has reached the summit of his nickname seven times, is also a high altitude film-maker/cinematographer. We were surprised to remember he was the director for Seven Years in Tibet. His newest is Secrets of Shangri-La, which covers his recent explorations into Nepal's remote Kingdom of Mustang. We were further surprised that such a place exists. Another location for the travel list. He'll give attendees a sneak peak and answer questions, of which we already have more than a few.
7:00 p.m. // The Mountaineers Building (in Magnussen Park) // Tickets: $10 members/$15 non-members
POLKA DOT DOT: Olympians Jordan O'Jordan, Onyx, and Colleen Johnson are , a tantalizing concoction of folk, tin pan alley, and a cappella. After a chance meeting in New Zealand, da PDD decided to write a few gorgeous songs and collect them in Syzygy (def: a kind of unity, especially through coordination or alignment. Don't worry. We had to look it up). Tonight they're at the Healthy Times Fun Club, so we're thinking this is basically a can't lose.
8:00 p.m. // Healthy Times Fun Club // Tickets: Donation
THE WHIGS ROCK: A hard-living Athens-based band, The Whigs have set themselves a sweet gig Saturday night at the Tractor in Ballard. Recently finished recording their third album, they're out to prove the songs road-worthy. It's going to be sweaty, loud thing, much like former neighbors, but with way more hair. The Whigs are joined by The Features and The Dead Trees.
9:00 p.m. // Tractor Tavern // Tickets: $12
