Can't Miss It: Thursday
IMPOSSIBLE PIXIES: You can’t miss it, but you probably will because both of the Pixies’ two nights in Seattle are sold out. So unless you’re willing to exchange your own soul for a scalper’s ticket or a questionable one online (worth it?) you’ll have to jam out to Doolittle all by your lonesome. The good news, though, is that the Pixies have been getting back together more often than junior high lovers, so it’s only a matter of time until they come back around. Tonight’s gig is supported by Rain Machine, aka Kyp Malone of TV on the Radio.
7:30 p.m. // Paramount Theatre, 911 Pine Street // $55
HYPNOTIZING HARMONY: Juliana Barwick’s looped and layered a capella music recalls both Enya’s smooth, airy vocals and Animal Collective-member Panda Bear’s compositional technique. Harmonies, light reverb, and an ambient touch conjure images of sweeping landscapes and slow motion views of red rock hills. Super relaxing and entertaining. With Seattle’s Flexions and others.
10:00 p.m. // JewelBox Theatre, 2322 2nd Ave // $7
THE FAREWELL CIRCUS: The Circus Contraption Band will perform its final show tonight as part of the inaugural Seattle International Cabaret Festival; when the bawdy gods close a door, they crash through a window. Circus Contraption performed its last theatre show last June, and now the eerie, surreal band bids farewell as well. The gypsy jazz performers may let things go intentionally awry. Dirty Tin Pan musician Kitten on the Keys accompanies.
7:00 p.m. & 10:00 p.m. // Triple Door, 216 Union St // $20
