Can't Miss It: Tuesday

DEAD ALIVE: Touted as "The Goriest Fright Film of All Time," Dead Alive (aka Braindead) will be playing tonight at Central Cinema. And yes, they will be featuring Peter Jackson's director's cut with the full lawnmower scene. The plot sounds fantastic--a woman is bitten by a Sumatran rat-monkey, dies, and comes back to life to kill and eat DOGS, among other living creatures. It doesn't get much more awesome than that.

9:30 p.m. // Central Cinema, 1411 21st Ave. // Tickets: $6, 21+

MICROTRENDS: Mark Penn, author of Microtrends: The Small Forces Behind Tomorrow's Big Changes, and the Wall Street Journal's "Microtrends" column, will be speaking tonight at Town Hall about the ideas behind microtrends, and how even just one percent of the US population can be responsible for sparks in political change, social movements, and in creating new business markets. Along with being Hillary Clinton's former campaign manager, Penn is credited with coining the well-known term "soccer moms" in 1996. We're kind of curious if he pulls out that little gem while meeting attractive "cougars."

7:30 p.m. // Town Hall, 1119 Eighth Avenue // Tickets: $5

MARY POPPINS AND DRINKS: We were so excited to hear that Ian Bell's Brown Derby is back on the stage this week, and this time they are recreating the much-loved children's film, "Mary Poppins." This troupe is incredibly fun and hilarious, and if you haven't seen one of the Brown Derby shows yet--and even if you aren't a Mary Poppins fan--you won't want to miss out on this production. Who knows, you may even just walk away with a new appreciation for that magical nanny and her flying umbrella. It is highly recommended to get there early, since reservations are never taken and seating is limited.

Doors at 7 p.m., show at 8 p.m. // Re-Bar, 1114 Howell St. // Tickets: $15, 21+
