Local hip-hop artist, Macklemore.
The readings and rapping will center around the theme of a childhood-favorite game that all of us are very--maybe painfully--familiar with: Truth or Dare. Yes... the game that could lead to you streaking across your neighborhood, kissing your crush (or worse off your best friend's pet), and the secrets... OH, the secrets. We've all got those memories--the hilarious, embarrassing, and sometimes downright hurtful Truth or Dare moments--and the fact that this brave bunch is willing to share theirs with us will no doubt make for an excellent opening to this year's Literary Series.
Playwright and director Keri Healey says about her Truth or Dare piece, "I was launched by the theme into revisiting my childhood games of Truth or Dare. I had two best friends, and our games got very intricate--and sometimes even cruel. Dares never scared me, but the secrets did."
Sounds familiar, yes? Healey, Brown, and McHenry will all be reading from new work centered around the open-ended Truth or Dare theme, which we can only assume will leave us laughing, cringing, and reminiscing back to our own childhoods, for better or worse.
Truth or Dare will take place at the Hugo House on Friday, October 23, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $15-25.
