Can't Miss It: Weekend Edition Oct. 16-18

NASHVILLE RAMONES: Kelley Darlin, Jessi Darlin, and Nikki Darlin—collectively known as Those Darlins—ply their whiskey-fueled rockabilly tonight at the Sunset in Ballard. Full of sunny cynicism, the Darlins pull their influences—The Black Lips, Ernest Tubb, Tav Falc—into rave-up waltzers like the "The Whole Damn Thing," "Wild One" and "Snaggletooth Mama." We are ready to fall in love and/or brawl our feelings out. Hey Sunset: Better get the chickenwire up.

Friday 9:00 p.m. // Sunset // Tickets: $10

ANIMAL MASH: All this weekend, the Woodland Park Zoo will allow its animals to crunch, smash, and stomp pumpkins as part of the zoo's enrichment program to enhance the lives of the animals. Says the Zoo: it "promotes natural animal behavior, keeps animals mentally stimulated, and provides added enjoyment for visitors.” Among the animal gladiators available to view: arctic foxes, orangutans, grizzlies, ocelots, otters, and African wild dogs. This is educational, folks. We bet somewhere, right now, an irate Gallagher is researching case law.

Saturday & Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. // Woodland Park Zoo // Tickets: FREE with Zoo admission (Adults aged 13-64: $11; Children 3-12: $8; and Toddlers: Free.)

OLD JOVA: It feels a little silly for us to tell you about Jay-Z, since he’s generally pretty good about talking himself up. For the last decade, Jay’s been spitting infinitely quotable hyperbole over some of the finest beats in existence. He drops jewels and pimps big with the easy swagger of someone so above the game they might as well be calling it. There are opening acts, but he knows and we know all eyes will be on him.

Saturday 8:00 p.m. // Key Arena // Tickets: $35+

MONKEY SCHOLARS: Local dance crew Massive Monkees and hip-hop kings Blue Scholars share a stage to raise money for victims of the recent tropical storm Ketsana. The benefit, going down at the Filipino Community Center will feature a b-boy/b-girl workshop, food, conversation, live music and more, and is open to all ages. Later on, The Crocodile hosts a 21+ after-party benefit concert with the Monkees, the Scholars, and hopefully you.

Sunday 2:00 p.m. & 8 p.m. // Filipino Community Center & The Crocodile // Tickets: Donation & $15+
