Can't Miss It: Tuesday

face1.jpg 'CAUSE SARAH VOWELL'S INCREDIBLE: Much-loved favorite author, humorist, journalist, and sometimes Pixar character Sarah Vowell will be in town tonight to read from her latest novel, The Wordy Shipmates. For anyone who has yet to have read Vowell's work, we promise this will be an excellent opportunity to get acquainted not only with her latest, but as well with Vowell herself. To ensure a seat or standing spot we highly recommend getting there early--there's definitely a reason why this book has been on the bestseller's list for practically forever.

7:00 p.m. // University Book Store, 4326 University Way NE // FREE

LET'S HEAR IT FOR SMALL BUSINESS: Town Hall and soon-to-be-ex Mayor Greg Nickels will be hosting the 2009 Mayor's Small Business Awards tonight, where ten local small business will be honored for their contribution to Seattle's economic vitality, overall excellence, and community involvement. Among those to be honored are the Ballard/Greenwood Sip & Ship, Annie's Nannies, Alki Kayak Tours, Cupcake Royale, and many more. We were personally happy to see the Sip & Ship among those being honored since we absolutely love their Ballard location--seriously, free drink certificates with mailing purchases? Damn straight.
5:30-8:30 p.m. // Town Hall // Tickets: $20

GREAT MUSIC ON A SCHOOL NIGHT: Granted you may be going to see Steely Dan, the Butthole Surfers, or Star Wars in Concert tonight, but if you're not, and you're looking for a slightly cheaper, slightly less-packed show, we'd recommend hitting up Neumos for the Texan "art rock" group ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead. Lead singer Conrad Keely originally studied at The Evergreen State College (go Geoducks!) in Olympia, before forming the group with Jason Reece, Kevin Allen, and a couple other close friends. Ladies, if you're wondering where your boyfriends have disappeared to tonight--check Neumos.

8 p.m. // Neumos, 925 E Pike // Tickets: $15
