Since well before last November’s election the term “socialist” has been tossed around American politics like a schoolyard (or Cold War) epithet. However, little has been done to explain to the average voter what socialism really is. Some illumination might help us understand why some folks want us to be so scared of a word. Seattle International Socialist Organization’s first weekly meeting of the quarter ostensibly seeks to answer these questions and take some of the mystery out of this perennial political boogeyman.
