WILD THING: Although it is time for the playoffs, we aren't referring to Mitch Williams or Charlie Sheen's character from Major League. The Wild Things is the novel version of Maurice Sendak's Where the Wild Things Are,for which Dave Eggers wrote the screenplay. The Spike Jonze movie is in theaters October 16 but Eggers will be speaking about the book today.

IT'S B-BALL TIME: The NBA preseason has started and LeBron James is once again at center stage. He's playing with Shaq, it's the last year of his contract, and earlier this week his friend got a fistful of Braylon Edwards, allegedly. Before LeBron was king he was merely the best high school player in the country. More than a game is a documentary about the St. Vincent-St. Mary Fighting Irish and their journey to capture a national high school championship.

7:00 p.m. // SIFF Cinema // Tickets: SIFF Members only

AIMEE MANN AND NICK LOWE: In case you forgot how great Magnolia is, (the movie, the soundtrack and the place), you can check out all three today. The weather's great on the bluff, go rent the movie, and then head over to the Moore to listen to Aimee Mann.

ANNIE PROULX AT BENAROYA Seattle Arts & Lectures starts its fall series tonight with Pulitzer Prize winner Annie Proulx. Proulx’s Brokeback Mountain stands as one of the most tragic novellas of recent memory. Proulx’s most recent book, Fine Just The Way It Is, sees her taking inspiration from her home state of Wyoming. These are not cowboy stories; they’re stories of people in difficult economic circumstances doing their best to eke out lives with a modicum of dignity.

7:30 p.m. // Benaroya Hall, 200 University Street Seattle // $10-$70
