Looking Back at Bumbershoot 2009 [Photos]

As we look back at Bumbershoot 2009, we do so with many fond memories. Sure there are those who will complain about the price (as bilco did), but much like those who took issue with his logic in our Best Bets post, we feel the value that the (majority of these) artists bring to our city is immeasurable.... OK, that could be taking it a bit too far, but we do feel that for the price, you certainly do get a lot. From Everest first taking the stage, through the various moments of audio and comedic bliss throughout the long weekend, to the last chords strummed by Metric's James Shaw, we were incredibly thankful for all that this city's oldest music festival has to offer.

I had a ton of fun. I was sad with my decision to do Modest Mouse over Metric though. The Mouse seemed kind of low energy, especially since they followed Franz Ferdinand and did mostly older songs in their first 45 minutes. When I walked by Metric on the way out it sounded great.

Hotels and Romance were surprise highlights for me. I liked pretty much everything I saw in EMP - the small venue, loud amps, and cool lighting made that my favorite environment of the festival.

The 500+ person line at Exhibition Hall for both MSTRKRFT and Dead Confederate was the only downside. They really need to work out their entry system - having only a single one-person-wide door open for entry is way too much of a bottleneck for a 2000 person venue.

Agree- EMP was an excellent venue. Great sound and awesome visual displays.

My experience at Exhibition Hall was terrible as well but for a different reason. I know the acoustics of the room are incredibly tough (essentially a huge high school-style cafeteria) but I was shocked by just how bad it sounded. I've seen Dead Confederate a number of times and this was by far the worst I've ever heard them sound, which was not their fault.

That one (relatively minor) grievance aside, I had a great time as well.
