Mt. Vernon to Honor Rush Limbaugh Wannabe

Both Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck are easily confused with lumps of under-cooked pork from a distance. Photo courtesy of romulusnr from the Seattlest Flickr Pool.

Mt. Vernon should be proud of Glenn Beck like the UW should be proud of Ted Bundy. (Fun fact: Both were active Republicans!) Just because you’re a big deal, doesn’t mean you’re a good deal. Mt. Vernon Mayor Bud Norris, long-time Beck friend, isn’t letting that get in his way as the Fox News waterboy is to be honored and given a key to the city later this month.

Nothing says accomplishment like pandering to the lowest common denominator and stirring hatred in the name of patriotism, but hey, he’s famous so whatever.

As commie socialists whose vision for America’s future consists only of gay trees and hand-outs to transgender whales, we cannot condone this gesture. Beck’s schtick, bypassing Bill O’Reilly’s pseudo-sanity and going straight for the lunatic fringe circle-jerk has scored major points for the local, making him "big" beyond Mt. Vernon’s worldly shores. (By "big" we mean selling your soul for prominence.)

We haven’t heard if the key to the city is as small as meaningless as Beck’s uninspired rants but that doesn’t matter. Mt. Vernon has officially cut itself off from the Subaru liberal gravytrain that passes by on I-5 en route to the hippie Mecca of Bellingham or to the hiking greatness of the North Cascades.

Enjoy the lousy partisan speech Mt. Vernon, just don’t come crying to us when our Subarus refuse to patronize your cutesy little downtown on our way home.
