SHE GOT SOUL: Bettye Lavette, a Detroit native and prolific singer-songwriter well known for her work in the Motown era, is visiting Seattle tonight and tomorrow night. Though Lavette toured in the 1960s with the likes of Otis Redding and Ben E. King and even had a short stint with the James Brown Revue, she always flew under the fame radar until 2005, when she released her album, I've Got My Own Hell to Raise. While in Seattle, Lavette will be singing songs from her latest album, The Scene of the Crime, along with old favorites from the '60s.

RAT CITY HISTORY: We know them and love them, and now their history--dating back to 2004--is detailed in the new documentary, Blood on the Flat Track: The Rise of the Rat City Rollergirls. The film follows the ladies' first two seasons, their relationships with each other, and the struggles to win competitions. The team began humbly at a small rink with only about 200 onlooking fans; fast-forward to 2009 where they are playing at venues such as Key Arena and selling over 1,500 tickets a month. If you've never been to an actual match, be prepared for plenty of blood, sweat, and roller-tears.

KILLER READING: Chelsea Cain will be reading from her latest novel, Evil at Heart, featuring the Beauty Killer--female serial killer Gretchen Lowell who is detailed in her previous two novels Sweetheart and Heartsick. Voted as one of Amazon's "Best Books of 2009," you'll just have to read it to see if Detective Archie Sheridan will finally be able to stop Lowell from killing again.
