Special to Seattlest by Paul Orch, craft beer advocate and writer
August around the Emerald City is almost gone, and soon with it our thoughts of light-colored beers. Lawnmowers are slowly giving way to leaf blowers, wood chippers, and rakes as we usher in Fall. Despite the increase in optimism for the economy, there are still deals at your favorite spot. Next week we dissect Fall seasonal beers and their brewery masters.
Elysian "Fields" Pioneer Square (Mon.- Fri. 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m./9:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m.) Located down the street from Safeco Field and right across from Qwest Field (cough Seahawks Stadium), you have your pick of over 20 beers and a plethora of under-five-buck appetizers. The truffled fries are killer and went down great with a Golden Boot for under four bucks. Just don't ask for cheap suds during a Seahawks or Mariners game.
Latona Pub Greenlake (Sun.-Sat., 4:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m.). Located up the street from Greenlake, this corner pub is celebrating their 22nd birthday today (8/31). If you can't make it in on Monday to check out their happy hour and congratulate them, then swing on any day for three-fifty pints.
Porterhouse West Seattle (Tue.-Sun. 3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m./Monday all day) Inspired by their Mt. Vernon spot, this gastropub features over 13 draft items and a healthy bottle selection. Most pints are three bucks with some of the stronger stuff a buck off. While sitting around the bar, why not sample from their appetizer list? Or if you want go unwind, head there in the evening between 11 and closing for drink specials.
