Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band Performs at Mt. St. Helens

Leave it to one of Seattle's weirdest and coolest bands to be the first to perform at an active volcano in the continental U.S.

Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band performed a special benefit show at the Johnston Ridge Observatory at Mt. St. Helens on August 15 as part of the celebration marking the 30th anniversary of the volcano's eruption.

No official word yet as to whether or not the band will also perform in Vietnam. However, anonymous sources tell us the band is leery of doing so, if only because they do not want to be asked over and over again whether or not they were "in the shit."

Great band name coupled with a cool venue.

I realize MSH is a long-ass drive but the relatively new observatory is fucking really cool and has great views when it isn't clouded in.

Also,

Why don't local bands write songs about volcanos and regionally cool things? We have a monster volcano in our back yard yet none of these cutesy, indie bands to my knowledge can be bothered to pick up on it.

If B.O.C. can write a song about Godzilla one of our resident emos can muster up some ballad about our own backyard. Until this happens they are all boring wimps in my book.

POTUS did. And yes, Vietnam rocks. Literally and meta-literally.
