Mercer Island Meets Staten Island Little Leaguers

This Friday, Mercer Island's Little League sluggers will be playing in the first round of the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. As the current Northwest Region champions, they will be batting against the Mid-Atlantic champions, South Shore National from Staten Island, New York. It's sure to be an exciting game for Mercer Island as they face the little Italians live on ESPN at 10 a.m. PST.

We have to wonder, when playing a team where every player's last name has a double consonant and ends in a vowel like Mastroddi, Ruggirello, or Pucciarelli and has a few players that answer to the name Angelo, Anthony, or Vincent, will the Polo-shirted, well-scrubbed Washington Little Leaguers be slightly intimidated?

As for tomorrow's game, it's only fitting to say: May the best island win.

I get that you were shooting for humor, but I think you went for the stereotype instead. Color me disappointed.
