Can't Miss It: Thursday
COOLEST PARTY IN TOWN: Tonight's the night when Cap to the Hill throws their $10K party in the parking lot of Havana. To back up and explain, Creature, a Capitol Hill ad agency, had a contest last month to find someone who could throw a really awesome, $10K party to produce material for a JanSport campaign. Cap to the Hill won, and now they're having a party celebrating the old Pine St. corridor, where the Bus Stop, Bimbo's, and the Cha Cha were all destinations. That said, the party's not open to the public, just to 400 or so of Cap to the Hill's closest friends, so you can either beg them, or turn up and hope someone's got a +1 for you.
8 p.m. // Havana Social Club // 1010 E. Pike St. // gotta know someone to get in
LA RÉSISTANCE: Jean-Pierre Melville has been the red-headed step-child of French cinema for years. When Army of Shadows was released in 1969, it was virtually ignored by critics and quickly slipped into obscurity; it wasn't even released in the US until 2006. Yet today, it's increasingly regarded as a masterpiece, a complex cinematic exploration of the dark days of the Nazi occupation and the French Resistance, and is in many ways responsible for the added buoyancy that Melville's reputation's received over the last few years. You have one more chance to see it tonight.
8 p.m. // Northwest Film Forum // 1515 12th Ave. // $6-$9
CONSERVATIZED: Seattle's Conservative Dad is all over the place, tripping nimbly from folk to punk-pop to hooky garage rock. Tonight, they're releasing yet another EP, suggesting that the band's more than happy to forgo albums to bring music out. Seriously, check out their MySpace page and get this stuff a listen. They're playing an EP release party with Pablo Trucker and at the Sunset.
9 p.m. // Sunset Tavern // 5433 Ballard Ave. NW // $6
