- Out of the gate from the 12 post position, Assessment (6-1) won Sunday's 74th running of the Longacres Mile at Emerald Downs. The top race brought in $796,268 worth of wagers, a single-race record.
- Finally, the Woodland Park Zoo's male snow leopard has a name: Gobi. Regardless of what 35,000 people wanted, we still think a Thundercats-inspired name would have been so much cooler.
- Time is ticking till the start of the school year and negotiations aren't looking promising between the Kent School District and its 1,800-member teachers union. Stalled talks have prompted a moderator, but if no agreements happen soon, the teachers plan on a strike vote Aug. 26.
- Lake City Live is loving life now that Ezell's Famous Fried Chicken has opened their new neighborhood location at the corner of 145th and Lake City Way.
- Too many new lines and street signs are confusing Ballard drivers at the intersection where 7th Ave NW meets NW Leary. MyBallard provides a map to navigate through SDOT's maze. No word yet on how badly GPS will screw this up.
