They Shoot Old Buses, Don't They?

Reading through Lucas from Neighborlogs' coverage of a King County Metro budget meeting, we're left with the uncomfortable feeling that we read the phrase "deferred maintenance" one too many times. Besides fare increases (to $2.25) and bus service suspensions, Metro's Kevin Desmond says "Metro will greatly reduce the number of buses it purchases, and speed, reliability and asset maintenance programs will be cut." [Emphasis added] We know! Reads like a line cut from Drag Me to Hell, doesn't it?

As a transit advocate, I wish I could feel okay about this and still want to use the bus. But $2.25?! You have to be fucking shitting me? Raising prices and lowering services of an already garbage-esque system?! NO STANK YOU!

I'll be fixing the brakes on my bike now.

Can we get some taxes up in here? And maybe switch from 40-40-20? maybe to 30-30-40? You know, since we in the city use the bus more regularly, maybe if the buses serve us better Metro makes more money. Just an idea. It's like serving hot plates in the desert.
