Randy Bachman on the 1969 Seattle Pop Festival

It's a slow news day, other than...nope, there's really nothing out there. So why not enjoy Randy Bachman (BTO!) talking about the time the Doors, Led Zeppelin, the Byrds, Ike and Tina Turner, and a metric shit-ton of other rockstars gathered in Woodinville for a three-day musical happening, July 25-27, that Seattle has not seen since. The 1969 Seattle Pop Festival was Seattle's Woodstock; tickets were $6 per day and $15 for all three days. It's been forty years but some things never change: "Nearby neighbors complained of traffic and the hippie atmosphere."

I was there for this great festival. Better weather than Woodstock, no traffic jams, and other than the Doors (who sucked), wonderful music. Too bad it wasn't filmed!

I still have my Pop Festival handbill...

Yeah well, Sheryl Crow is headlining Bumbershoot so suck on that easy listening, adult contemporary shit! 2009 bitch!

    Sigh.

I actually met an old hippie just this weekend that went to the festival. Growing up on the eastside we never believed for a second that stories of Zeppelin playing in the fields of Woodinville were true.
