Special to Seattlest by Paul Orch, craft beer advocate and writer.
Last week, the weather was for lack of a better word "normal" but the featured entertainment was not. Between hydroplanes, synchronized fighter jets, and pirates, it was enough to make anyone need a drink. To soothe the still nervous and the slightly hungover, we suggest the following craft beer medication.
Cooper's Alehouse, Maple Leaf (Monday-Friday, 3 to 6 p.m.) $1 off pints and $2 dollar off all menu items combined with the bottomless bin of pretzels helps anyone regain their balance. Recognized in CAMRA's guide to good beer--there is no better endorsement than an alehouse mentioned by beer experts.
Pike Brewing, downtown Seattle ("Hoppy" Hour, Monday-Friday, 4 to 6 p.m.) Located just a Flying Fish throw away from the market you can wash down those half-off appetizers with a $3.50 pint or a pitcher for $11.50. Take a seat for the many televisions around the pub, or stop into the Museum Room to check at coasters, pints glasses, and posters from an earlier age.
Collin's Pub, Pioneer Square (Monday-Friday, 4 to 6 p.m.) Hiding in the shadow of the building's namesake, this dimly lit escape from white-collar insanity offers $1 off an awe-inspiring selection of beers paired with great food. This week try the Flanders Freakout with drink specials and food pairings that would make a monk soak his robe in tears.
