Can't Miss It: Weekend Edition Aug. 7-9
FOLK MUSIC GREATNESS: National touring folk music artist Tracy Grammer is in town tonight at the Fremont Abbey, making a rare Seattle appearance with Seattlest's own folk sensation Kim Ruehl. Grammer's touring for her award wining album Flower Of Avalon, and even Joan Baez speaks her praise: "Tracy Grammer is a brilliant artist and unique individual. Her voice is distinctive, as is her mastery over the instruments she plays.”
8 p.m. Friday // Fremont Abbey Arts Center, 4272 Fremont Avenue North // Tickets: $14
TOUR DE FAT : The Seattle Tour de Fat is here--really, not as bad as it sounds. The New Belgium Brewing Company, maker of Fat Tire beer hosts their annual Tour de Fat, an 11 western city tour celebrating the bicycle and encouraging everyone to embrace their inner cyclist. Join in (preregister first) for Saturday's event kick-off with a 6-mile parade starting at Gas Works Park. Afterward the festivities get going at noon, where you can witness a sucker someone trading in their car for a bike, grab a few beers and watch a variety of performances by Sean Hayes, Squirm Burpee Circus, The Pimps of Joytime and Portland’s Original Mini-Bike Dance Troupe, The Sprockettes.
10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday // Gas Works Park // Tickets: Suggested $5 donation
DUNKIN' DOGGIES: The hot-hot dog days of summer are (fingers crossed) hopefully behind us now, so what better way to pamper your pooch than with a dip into the Helene Madison Pool. Oh, and it's heated too--lucky dog! The new-ish Seattle tradition, hosted by the Seattle Parks and Recreation, allows dogs to perfect their doggie paddle for one day only, before the pool is shut down for seven weeks for routine maintenance and cleaning. Sorry, no humans are allowed in the pool, but don't worry--there is a BBQ for you.
6-9 p.m., Sunday // Helene Madison Pool, 13401 Meridian Avenue North // Tickets: $12 per dog (must be licensed), humans get in free
