Can't Miss It: Thursday
BAD SCIENCE: At the UW bookstore, journalist Chris Mooney chats up his new book Unscientific America. Previously, Mooney took on the Bush Administration for their politicization of government science research, but in the new book he's aiming even wider, arguing that a combination of religious fundamentalism and deep-seated anti-intellectualism are threatening our future.
7 p.m. // UW Bookstore // 4326 University Way NE // free!
GUN HAPPY: Why the hell was everything so fucked up back in 1969? We ask that question every time we check out one of the films from NW Film Forum's '69 series. Tonight is your second and final chance to see the notorious Dillinger is Dead, from Italian auteur Marco Ferreri, about a man who finds a gun that allows him to act out his fantasies and escape and the soul-crushing conformity of middle-class society.
8 p.m. // Northwest Film Forum // 1512 12th Ave. // tix $6-$9
MUSIC WORTH CHECKING OUT: The most promising evening of live music looks to be down at the Sunset Tavern, where a tight line-up anchored by Long Beach's The Fling swings between ragged, aggressive Sixties-style blues-rock (The Night Beats) and fuzzy, jangly indie pop (This Blinding Light).
9 p.m. // Sunset Tavern // 5433 Ballard Ave. NW // tix $6
