More Metro Transit Proposals Digging for Funds
Looking at a projected two-year shortfall of $213 million, Metro Transit is in a position to scrimp, save, and make some serious cuts and changes. So what do we get?
Proposals, proposals and more fictitious proposals--that (sigh) will save the day--from the King County Council.
Talk of increasing bus fares hit the headlines first, as select council members support a 25-cent increase each year over four years. Hello, $3 bus ride. Metro's other budget saving proposals, reported by the Seattle Times include: Tap into the $105 million fleet-replacement fund, do away with Downtown ride-free zones, cancel select future foot-ferry lines, and scale back bus service by 30 percent.
With all these proposals (!) and looming cuts, Seattle City Council Transportation Committee's upcoming public brown bag lunch forum is sure to be frank and entertaining informative.
