Mariners Win, Storm Lose, MLS All-Star Game Wednesday

The M's win 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth on Ichiro's two-out walk-off single -- Ich's 148th hit of the season, which puts him exactly at the pace of his record-setting 262-hit season in 2004. Washburn allowed just 1 run in 7 IP in what may have been his last start as a Mariner, but didn't get the win due to a bullpen collapse. M's 52-48, 7.5 GB. Box score. Next game Weds. vs. TOR, 1:40 p.m.; Rowland-Smith vs. Halladay.

(M's Note: Tacoma catcher and former first-round pick Jeff Clement was removed in the third inning of the Rainiers' game tonight, leading to speculation that he has been, or soon will be, traded.)

The Storm game was also decided on the last play, but not in their favor. San Antonio's Sophia Young hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer that gave the Silver Spurs a 74-71 win. The Storm had battled back from a late five-point deficit; Tanisha Wright's runner tied it with 14.5 left, but it wasn't enough. LJ led Seattle with 19 points, Swin Cash had a double-double. Storm 11-6, 2nd place, 1.5 GB. Box score. Next game Sat. vs. San Antonio.

The MLS All-Star game is Wednesday night in Salt Lake City. It's a different format than other all-star games, as the MLS stars will face English Premier League team Everton. Sounders Kasey Keller and Freddie Ljungberg will start, with Jhon Kennedy Hurtado and Fredy Montero available off the bench. The game's at 6:30 PST, you can watch live on ESPN2.
