Hiking to the Ghost Town of Monte Cristo
Who says we're making transportation progress? Eighty years ago, you could've joined other day-tripping Puget Sounders on a passenger train to Monte Cristo, then one of the area's leading tourist destinations. Now you have to hoof it. The train is gone. Most of the town, too. But the gorgeous sights that drew your grandparents here remain. The trailhead is at Barlow Pass, where the Mountain Loop Highway dead-ends, about a 2.5 hour drive from Seattle. Come along with us!
