We're Out Scalping Light Rail Tickets Today...

Over the weekend and again this morning, a bug has been affecting Link light rail's ticketing system, telling aggrieved would-be riders no soup for you "transaction canceled." Bummer.

Given the 92,000 weekend riders, it seems a missed opportunity to hear this from Seattlest reader Tod: "Guess what no one could get this weekend? An Orca Card. Yes, you can order one over the Internet and wait a week to get one, but why on Earth were they not out there signing people up? Also, try to get a youth card. Can't do it. You have to go in person to an office which, apparently, is only open during the week during business hours so I have to leave work, go get my son out of his summer program, and take him to where? None of the locations are on the Orca card Web site. I emailed in and about 4 days later they told me I could go to Westlake--which was closed over the weekend. Genius." Well, Sound Transit? What have you got to say for yourselves?

Finally, PubliCola's Josh noticed what we noticed two years ago--no bike racks near the Westlake Station entrance. We filled out an online request for a bike rack on August 9, 2007. Guess Nordy's still thinks bicycles are for the homeless.

Sound Transit: Not the fastest bus in the tunnel.

Gee, too bad you didn't just get your orca card at some point in the past three months since they've been rolled out. But I guess you would have missed out on a great bitching and moaning and county-bashing opportunity.

It's great to be able to buy a pass online and have it the next day, btw.

So, that explains why ST wasn't handing out Orca cards in person...how? Is your point that transit *should* be playing hard to get with ridership?

Also in "you'd think they could've planned this better": the light rail schedule is not yet available in Sound Transit's online trip planner.
