It's Bastille Day! Liberate Your Fraternal Equality!
As most of you know, today the French traditionally celebrate the storming of the Bastille by breaking into the nearest jail and freeing whomever catches their eye. Trust the French! Well, they've got a good thing going and they know it. Here in the U.S. the stakes are considerably higher when it comes the legal ramifications of citizen's-arrest take-backs.
Seattle's big Bastille Day festival was last weekend, so you've pretty much missed that. However, Cafe Campagne has festivities planned from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. today, featuring Ginger! as your mistress of ceremonies. There's music, cancan, wine and beer, and "Parisian street fare" starting at $5. It all happens in scenic Post Alley.
Over at Le Pichet, the celebrations begin at 6 p.m., with Brent Harding's take on Paris street fare, the jazz band jazzifies at 7 p.m., and then at 11 p.m. DJ Miss Broadway steps up to take it on home.
For a more romantic tete-à-tete with your recently jailbroken amour, have the getaway car drop you at Maximilien's for a three-course dinner ($35)--mmm, Salade Niçoise--and the accordion stylings of Janet Rayor & Steve Rice. Or, you know, stay home and drink French beer if you want. We don't judge.
