Can't Miss It: Tuesday
DESIGN GEEK HEAVEN: Early on in Gary Hustwit's documentary about design, Andrew Blauvelt reveals why Japanese-style toothpicks have those two grooves at the top. And no, it's not because they look pretty. With that, the film snagged our trivia-loving heart. Hustwit presses on to explore the psychology, philosophy, sociology, history, and several other -ys of design. It's never less than fascinating. If you ever think about the mass-produced stuff around you, don't miss Objectified.
7 p.m. & 9 p.m. // Northwest Film Forum // 1515 12th Ave. // $9
NEVERLAND RANCHERO-STYLE QUIZ: Seattlest asks the questions the first Tuesday of the month, but you'll find excellent trivia at the Old Pequliar every Tuesday night. Tonight, Aaron will be your host. He's the guy that first turned our audio rounds up to 11. Last week, two teams got to pick round topics, so in addition to the usual pictures, audio, current events, and movies, expect rounds on baseball and the Neverland Ranch. Since Aaron usually plays on a team named after NAMBLA, we're sure he'll do the topic justice.
8 p.m. // Old Pequliar // 1722 NW Market St. // $5 or $7, depending on team size
BRAZILIAN CHANTEUSE: Coffee isn't the only thing Starbucks imports from Brazil. Their Hear Music label brought Céu's self-titled first album to the U.S. a couple of years ago. Tonight and tomorrow, she's at the Triple Door promoting her sophomore effort, Vagarosa. What we've heard sounds lovely: a smattering of trip-hop, a sprinkle of Girl from Ipanema, and a whole lotta lounge.
8 p.m. // The Triple Door // 216 Union St // $28 day of show
