MISERY LOVES ARTSY COMPANY: Eric Thompson, Aubrey Birdwell, and Stefan Moore are Seattle-based artists who apparently believe that happiness is illusory but misery is as eternal as death and taxes. Or so we gather from the notes about their group show opening at OHGE Ltd. tonight. The show is inspired by notions of how we create a safe space in our homes, in a uniquely American way, an illusion of stasis in a transient world.
6-9 p.m. // OHGE Ltd. // 831 Airport Way S. // free!
LEAVE YOUR LIVERS AT HOME: Tonight, America's top editorial cartoonists are besieging Town Hall with racial stereotype-burdened caricatures of America's leadership and taking pot-shots in thought bubble-form at the inanities of daily life. We can already smell the stench of cheap bourbon wafting our way from First Hill. The event is one of the few public parts of the 2009 Association of American Editorial Cartoonists Convention down at the Washington Athletic Club. The discussion will cover such notables as David Horsey, Mike Peters, Jack Ohman, Ted Rall, Matt Bors, and Mark Fiore (some of whom will likely be there). There's also an auction of originals, for the collectors out there who'd maybe love to own an original of Condi Rice about to eat a big old piece of watermelon.
8-9:30 p.m. // Town Hall // 1119 Eighth Ave. // $25/$15 members, at the door
