A Reader Writes

I cannot tell you how low I think your virtual rag has sunk with the story you ran on June 16. The victim of this accident perished from his injuries on June 24th in the ICU at Harborview. He was one of my closest friends, always a gentleman and the least grumpy human being I have ever met. There are no excuses you could ever give that could alter my low opinion of Seattlest.

We're not going to attempt to defend our "actually funny" vs. "thought it was funny at the time" percentage because that would be a loser's game. We are saddened to hear that Stuart Thayer died as a result of the accident. He was a historian of the American circus, which--along with his identity--we didn't know when the story posted. Our condolences to friends and family.

Witty titles and making light of tragedy are a classic type of humor and particularly popular in journalism. Unfortunately there's always a small segment that doesn't get it, but I find that type of humor funny.

Quincy Jones' Farewell to Michael Jackson - that was Seattlest's oh-so-funny headline for the death of nutjob/pedophile Jacko.

Oh, wait, he was famous - with a bevy of lawyers.
