Surprisingly, there are still tickets available for the Dirty Projectors show this Friday. We say "surprisingly," because Dave Longstreth's band was already critically acclaimed before new release Bitte Orca earned their best reviews yet and even some early talk of it being the best album of the year. Of course that depends on both your personal taste and, um, all the albums that come out in the second half of 2009, but Bitte Orca is an odd duck of a record, and we mean that in a good way. First single "Stillness is the Move" (video above) could easily be an Aaliyah track, y'know, under different circumstances. And yet, despite the R&B stutter-step beats and the girl harmonies, Bitte Orca is still a rock album with quirky yet accessible art-pop sensibilities. It's your chance Friday to catch Dirty Projectors in a tiny club before they're avalanched in year-end accolades. (It's also only their second show since a serious van accident last week.) What's Up? opens.
