- Seattle Opera must have been on a high note on Friday, when they were awarded a $500,000 grant to debut the new American opera Amelia in May 2010.
- We welcome the handmade chocolates (hellooo, raspberry-wasabi dark chocolate truffle!), traditional German treats, and delicious ganache-filled confections from Madison Valley's Suess Chocolates & Pastries, the newest chocolate shop on the block. If one truffle isn't enough for you, there are truffle-making classes too.
- The Seattle Art Museum did a good deed. They voluntarily handed over a small 1-meter-long sacred carved piece of stone used in central Australian Aboriginal ceremonies to the National Museum of Australia. SAM acquired the secret ceremonial piece--an object intended never to be seen by women, children, or uninitiated men--in 1971.
- There's nothing better than ordering "market research" err.. a summertime brew on a beautiful Seattle day. Over at Seattle Beer News they want to know what's your favorite Washington IPA on tap? Tough job, huh?
- Justice has been served for at least 16 people and foundations in Washington State hurt by the wide-reaching Bernard Madoff investment scandal. Today, the 71-year-old Ponzi schemer was sentenced to 150 years in prison.
