Over in Kitsap County, business owners and everyday folks have been hoodwinked by a circulating cluster of counterfeit $50 and $100 bills. The counterfeiter(s?) responsible have printed their own fake benjamins on "washed" $5 bills, leaving only the remnants of a thin security strip and a faint, watermarked Abraham Lincoln.

Unbeknownst to local businesses, including the Joy and Peace Christian Book Center in Bremerton (for real, a Christian bookstore!), the suspects had used fake bills to purchase a small tchotchke or two and then pocketed the change.

Counterfeiting is a federal offense, and banks, businesses, and those out $100 bucks hope local investigators solve this case--soon. Especially if it's linked to solving who pulled a fast one over a Bremerton Girl Scouts in March.
