Can't Miss It: Thursday

Portland's Helio Sequence, playing Neum'os 5-year anniversary show tonight.
FIVE YEARS OLD: Yup, that's Neumos, turning the big five tonight with a party. Helio Sequence, Grand Hallway, and Palmer Electric Co. take the stage tonight. Entry is free when you buy a drink at Moe Bar, which also means it's 21 and over.

8 p.m. // Neumo's // 925 E. Pike St. // free!, 21+

PIPE DREAMS: Why you'd ever want to be a screenwriter is beyond us. Pour your heart and soul into that first screenplay, only to have some half-wit director debauch it by turning it into one of those pseudo-indie flicks big stars like to slum in? No, thanks! Well, if you're the sort of sick bastard that retains some baseless faith in the power of writing for the cinema, head down to the Alibi Room tonight at happy hour for a meet and greet with the staff of the Film School, a school for aspiring screenwriters that offers an intensive three-week course that, apparently, can have results. Or so says the guy who wrote Valkyrie, 'cause, you know, that was a masterpiece.

5:30-7:30 p.m. // Alibi Room // 85 Pike St. #410 // free, 21+

NEW MUSIC THURSDAY: Throw Me the Statue and U.S.E. both have new records coming out on August 4, which is a ways off. If you just can't stand to wait that long to hear their new tunes, there's a listening party for both, courtesy of both The Stranger and Easy Street at Solo Bar in Lower Queen Anne.

9 p.m. // Solo Bar // 200 Roy St. // free!, 21+
