A Year Ago You Paid $4.33 For A Gallon Of Gas
Today marks the fourth annual National Dump the Pump day, yet another day supposed to encourage people to ride their bikes (check), ride the bus (check), and leave their cars behind (unchecked).
It's not such a shabby idea, but as we found out last year, it pretty much requires gas prices to hit the $4 mark before Seattleites will give up their keys for public transportation. Over at West Seattle Blog, they pulled up gas prices a year ago today and found that we were shelling out $4.33 a gallon. (Yikes!)
In that same week in 2008, NPR reported commuter rail and bus use in Seattle had also increased by 28 percent. Coincidence--we think not. But here we are a year later, so what's your daily mode of transportation now that the price of gas averages $2.88 a gallon? Would NPR still be proud of you?
