If you've been living under a rock or are a procrastinator, or are a procrastinator living under a rock, you might be surprised that your analog or "regular" TV is broadcasting snow on June 12. That is because broadcast television has now switched to digital or "unleaded" transmission, which among other things will reduce that pinging sound your TV makes going up a hill. Here's a map of the places you can get help and digital converter boxes in Washington. If you already have a converter box, you still need to tell it to rescan for channels, because we understand they've changed in the official switch. You want to make sure you get channel 7.2, KIRO's Retro Television, which is rebroadcasting such classic fare as Sheriff Lobo, Airwolf, and The Incredible Hulk.

Tuesdays are Muppet Days

I watched Ironsides on that channel. Damn, that show makes no sense at all. Raymond Burr's career peaked with Perry Mason.
The Digital TV transition is no trouble at all if your cables are correctly polarized. Go to Screen 47 of the DTV Converter Box On-Screen Installation Guide and use the resident GPS to correctly align your antenna for each channel, allowing for local ionospheric conditions, and ARRRGGGHH!

I'm on Capitol Hill and haven't been able to receive Q13 FOX (neither the main channel nor their multicast Accuweather channel) since the switch in June. Evidently KCPQ began broadcasting on a new frequency, still out of Tacoma, with less reach than before. Rumor has it that the station has an application in with the FCC to simulcast from an unused tower on Capitol Hill, which would provide additional coverage to much of the Seattle metro area. Viewers can voice their support by emailing askus@q13fox.com.
Also, I'm noticing lately that both KING 5 channels, which I generally receive very well (90% strength or higher) lose signal completely at random moments, often for hours at a time. Is anyone else experiencing this?
Q13 and KING 5 are both problem channels for me--Q13 is the trickiest to get in. Most of the time my signal losses are caused by planes going by overhead, it being Capitol Hill. You wouldn't think one plane would be able to do that, but there it is. The weather seems to be a real factor, too--I suppose it always was but you really notice it with digital when your signal is weakened.
