NON GRATA
www.monktail.com

The flagship big band of the Monktail Creative Music Concern, NON GRATA consists of all given members of the MCMC collective at a given point, and relies on patterns, textures and forms developed through ensemble practice. It is new composition in a spontaneous music combat zone. Basically, we're the bastard children of art music and we're running with scissors. NON GRATA released its first CD, conveniently entitled NON GRATA, on Monktail Records in 2003.

WACO

The Washington Composers Orchestra (WACO), formed in 2008, came about when long time Seattle residents Robin Holcomb and Wayne Horvitz re-united with recent NY transplant Tom Varner and made plans to re-create the now defunct New York Composers Orchestra (NYCO), an ensemble active from 1986-1999, using Seattle based musicians. The band consists of Steve Treseler, Mark Taylor, Greg Sinabaldi, Eric Barber, and Jim Dejoie - reeds; Brad Allison, Thomas Marriot, and Samantha Boshnack - trumpets; Nelson Bell and Chris Stover - trombones; Tom Varner - French horn; Byron Vannoy - drums; Phil Sparks - bass; Robin Holcomb and Wayne Horvitz - piano, conductor.

TU
www.treygunn.com/tu

Trey Gunn and Pat Mastelotto met at Peter Gabriel's Real World studio in spring 1993. After several months touring the globe with David Sylvian and Robert Fripp they were invited into King Crimson. TU debuted in live performance in April 2004 in Russia. TU gigs are improvisational and usually allow other duos to join them (TU+2). In 2007 Tu joined TOOL for two shows - as the opening act and playing Lateralus with them. In 2008 they performed in Poland at the International Percussion festival and joined TOOL, again, for two more shows. Fall 2008 TU performed in Mexico City and at the Puebla International Festival outdoors in the center village square.

SUGAR SKULLS
www.myspace.com/sugarskullsrocks

Once upon a time, there was a dirty little laundry shed in Seattle. In the year 2003, this lunchbox of a room gave birth to the rock band Sugar Skulls. They went on to record their first full-length album, "The Little Death" in 2007 (Randall Dunn, Aleph Studios). For record taxonomy purposes, their music contains elements of progressive rock, metal, experimental, classical, pop, American and un-American music. They have warmed up the stage for groups such as Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Ruins, Jennifer Gentle, Twin, Lesbian, and God of Shamisen. Sugar Skulls = Kory Christian - drums, Heidi Nebel - keyboards, Julie Baldridge - violin, Ursula Beatrice Stuart - bass.

FIGEATER
www.thefrankagency.org/Figeater.htm

Disjunctive, raucous, soaring, and powerful - Figeater is a textural, tribal exploration of organic movement, instigated by clarinetist/composer Beth Fleenor. Improvisations are punctuated, buttoned and launched by original compositions and songlike psychedelic episodes, with an emphasis on environmental participation. It has been called sonic spelunking - or an all improvised fun time. "Daringly, {Figeater} was down right pretty, not a term often associated with free improv...while later it was visceral, convulsive and more than a bit creepy..." (Seattle Weekly) Figeater is a time-based, performance process emphasized ensemble vehicle where audience and environment are recognized members of the configuration performing. It is through the combination of these components that the performance takes place. The Figeater Sounds Outside installation will feature performing unit OG Super Special Fig.

GREG SINIBALDI
www.gregsinibaldi.com

The distinctive voice of saxophonist, bass clarinetist and composer Greg Sinibaldi evolves from a psyche absorbed in both classical and jazz studies. His study of form and structure along with his love of improvisation unite in artfully crafted music that expresses the phenomenon of exploration with exquisitely composed melodic harmonies and textures.

SYNCOPATED TAINT HORN QUARTET
www.syncopatedtaint.com

Skerik, Craig Flory, Dave Carter and Hans Teuber have been playing together for many years on the Seattle music scene, bringing together their particular voices to find a common ground. Since about 2002 these gentlemen have been sharing improvising ideas on the road and in the studio as part of Skerik's Syncopated Taint Septet.
