Under UW Men's Crew, Add 2009 National Champions

Over the weekend, University of Washington's varsity eight men's crew beat long-time rival California and the hoity-toity East coast crews in the last 100m to win the 107th Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships. The final strokes proved powerful enough, as the UW bow ball passed the finish line a second faster to win the race. Final race times: UW 5:50.91, Cal. 5:51.80, Stanford 5:56.45, Brown 5:58.73, Harvard 6:01.64 and Boston Univ. 6:02.68.

Besides a third straight national varsity title in hand, it was a big day for the younger Husky crews as the second varsity and freshman crews won their own national titles, giving UW their first full sweep of eights in twelve years. The UW men's open four were also able to add to the collection of national championship hardware, with close win over Wisconsin.

As for the future of UW rowing, it's the undefeated freshman crew to watch. The youngsters rowed the regatta's fastest time: 5:50.68 (yes, that's faster than the big bad UW varsity) and are certainly poised to bring home more titles.
